Covid cases may be bouncing up in Raglan, Hamilton and central Waikato

New Covid cases in Raglan, Hamilton and central Waikato may be bouncing back up. Although they trended down from 260 a day in early June and down to around 145 a day in late June, new daily cases are now tracking in a 214 to 364 band This indicates that there may be an upward trend. There is likely to be 5 new cases of Covid in Raglan each day with about 41 active community cases, self isolating.

For our graph we have combined new daily cases numbers in Hamilton City, Raglan and other Waikato District areas (e.g. Tamahere, Whatawhata, Ngaruawahia, Huntly and Gordonton). Starting from a high level of over 1200 daily cases in early March, the numbers plateaued at about 1000 then began to slowly drop down to just over half the peak to 785 on 25th March. After tracking at about 200 a day in early May, they then went up to 350 a day, and then dropped to around 195 a day. They have now moved up in early July to around 289 new Covid cases each day.

There were 577 new Covid cases reported in the health region Te Whatu Ora Waikato, on Saturday 9th July.

The total number of cases in this Waikato outbreak is now 115,643 (3836 active and 111,807 recovered).

There were 59 COVID-19 positive individuals receiving care at Te Whatu Ora Waikato hospitals on Saturday 9th – this is a mix of patients who are receiving care for COVID-19 and those receiving care for an unrelated condition who have also tested positive. One patient is in ICU.
