Council works in Main Raod, Raglan

Road and drainage works are underway in Raglan’s Main Road from East Street to just before Norrie Avenue.   Waikato District Council describe the work as an ‘Urban Upgrade’. The project started last week and it is hoped that it will be completed by the end of April.

Councillor Baddeley said that the works were another step in the continuing initiatives to improve the appearance and safety for visitors coming into Raglan.  He said, “The storm water drainage improvements are something that has asked for by many residents to stop flooding and run-off problems in this area.”

Project summary

This project starts approximately 60m East of East Street (where it is to tie in to a future project) and ends at Norrie Avenue opposite the BP Petrol Station.

Project description

The urban upgrade project involves the following;

  • Construction of a new storm water system that is to tie into the existing system on East Street
  • New kerb and channel, footpaths and concrete entranceways
  • Replacement of the existing pedestrian refuge island
  • Reshaping of the existing pavement, surfacing with asphaltic concrete, and roadmarking

The Contract, valued at $359,213.50, has been awarded to Schick Construction and Cartage Ltd, and work is expected to be complete by 30 April 2010
