Council wants to do another $200K traffic light trial

Some years ago Waikato District Council carried out a traffic light trial on Wainui Road’s one lane bridge across the Opotoru Estuary. The trial failed when a few Raglanites pushed the lights into the estuary.

After getting set for another traffic light trial, the council says it has paused the traffic light trial in Raglan based on feedback from Raglanites on the 2024/25 Annual Plan.

Always keen to spend ratepayers money, even though a trial would have no matched funding from NZ Transport Agency and would increase your rates, the council is once gain asking if you’d like them to spend $200K and go ahead with the trial?

The one-lane bridge operates on a courtesy give-way system. Throughout most of the year, this system works smoothly, accommodating the regular flow of vehicles. However, during peak holiday seasons, some drivers may experience brief waits to cross, and each year, the council receives a number of complaints regarding these delays.
