Tar pools re-emerge a day after grit is spread

On the evening of Thursday 22nd Nov., WDC contractors in a stealth operation, spread grit on the Bow Street tar pools.  The tar pools resulted from a chip reseal lifting from the day it was laid.

The grit seems to have solved some of the problem areas initially, but when we checked on Saturday morning, the tar pools were already starting to reappear after Friday’s hot weather.  And tar coated grit is now spreading on the footpaths.

An article in the Raglan Chronicle quotes the Council’s Roading GM, Mr Gooden as saying that WDC is evaluating options and these range from, “doing nothing to applying a further seal coat.”

Grit has covered up road markings

The spreading of the grit may have caused another cost for WDC as many of white and yellow road marking lines have been covered up.  This would mean repainting them for a third time may be required.
