Council elections coming up – Have you thought about standing for election?

Voting is not just a right, it’s an opportunity to have your say on what’s important to you, your whanau and your community. This October 2016 is your chance to have a say on who represents your community and the Waikato district for the next three years.

Have you thought about standing for election?

By standing you have a chance to shape your community and make sure it is not overlooked.

Positions you can stand for (or vote for) are:

  • Waikato District Mayor (the Mayor is elected on a district-wide vote)
  • Waikato District Councillors (13 Councillors are elected to represent 10 Wards, or areas, in our District)
  • Community Board member for Raglan

In addition to voting for a Mayor, Councillors and Community Board members, Raglan electors will also vote for:

  • Waikato Regional Council members
  • Waikato District Health Board members

The purpose of  Waikato District Council is to meet the current and future needs of your community. This includes good-quality local infrastructure, public services and performance of regulatory functions in a way that is most cost-effective for households and businesses.

  1. There’s also WRC and DHB elections and the DHB elections might well decide if we get fluoride in our water. More information on these is at http://www.waikatodhb.health.nz/about-us/board/dhb-elections/ and http://www.waikatoregion.govt.nz/Council/About-us/Our-council/Local-Authority-Elections/Candidates/. Would be good to have more candidates able to connect better with voters and not be bottom of the list for the proportion of voters yet again.
