The first meeting of the newly elected Raglan Community Board was held on Tuesday (8th November 2016). Bob MacLeod was elected as Chairperson with Gabrielle Parson as deputy.
The meeting started with Council CEO Gavin Ion chairing the meeting. After the Board members made their declarations, Gavin went through the procedural matters of approving standing orders, threatening the members with prison if they took bribes, etc. The Board then moved on to electing the Chair and Deputy. As there was only one nomination for each position, Bob and Gabrielle were declared elected.
The Board’s first decision was to reject approving a community board charter that was headed, “Blankety Blank Community Board Charter”. Instead they approved a charter for the Raglan Community Board. The updated Charter contains a clause on working with the Council on priority projects.
Mayor Allan Sanson said, “Board members should not walk the footpaths looking for cracks, instead they should take a helicopter view”.
The Board then considered funding applications approving grants to the Raglan Community Arts Council for its building project, Whaingaroa Environment Centre for Plastic Free Raglan, the Raglan Lions Club for the New Year’s Eve parade, the Raglan Chamber of Commerce for a Christmas light competition, and the Raglan Mountain Bike Club for Wainui Reserve mountain bike track maps.
