Compostable bags available for Raglan!

Kia ora,

The Plastic Bag Free Raglan team has been working on sourcing a good, sturdy, water proof non-plastic single use carry bag for our local businesses.
Plastic Bag Free Raglan are delighted to advise that we have found a suitable bag marketed under the BioPak brand. These BioPak bags are made from a starch based bioplastic that is certified as compostable to Australian standard AS4736. Xtreme Zero Waste have will accept the bags and turn them into compost.
The flyer that can be downloaded HERE details the bags that are now available. There is a very short lead time of a few days delivery to Raglan.
The price will vary according to quantity ordered.  To give you an idea on price, the PBFR project has just purchased 3000 bags (for community koha) and including delivery these bags total cost excluding GST was $579.69.  (This works out to be less than twenty cents per bag.)
Depending on the number of businesses ordering in quantity, the price is able to be negotiated. Some businesses will choose to pass on this cost to the customer. We are also working on establishing a central point for ordering for Raglan businesses.
We are encouraging businesses to trial these bags as soon as possible.
Please do contact PBFR team by return email for more details.
We look forward to working with you in the transition to a plastic bag free town!
Best Regards,

June Penn

  1. Are you able to get similar compostable bags that could be used for picking up dog droppings? This is quite an issue and although you can get biodegradable bags now, I am told that these do not degrade if they are compressed in a rubbish dump as they need to be exposed to air to decompose.
