Following his November 2013 visit where he introduced a process known as “Placemaking”, world expert, David Engwicht, is returning later this month to run an interactive workshop on revitalisation projects for Raglan.
At the 22 February workshop Mr Engwicht seeks to take Raglan through the next step in a process of creating desirable places to live, by tapping into local inspiration to identify projects to invigorate the town. During a Bow Street walkabout last year, Mr Engwicht gave examples of the type of low-budget, community-led projects capitalising on existing assets that are central to strong connections within communities.
Further ideas are expected to come from the one day workshop which locals are encouraged to contribute their ideas on making Raglan the kind of place “where people want to live, work and play.” The workshop is supported by the Raglan Community Board and free to attend.
David Engwicht is best known in New Zealand for having inspired the Paihia community to redesign and rebuild the public toilets, which like the Hundertwasser toilets in nearby Kawakawa have now become a big tourist attraction
