After receiving many complaints about parking over the summer, Raglan Community Board is to look at summer parking. A report from Waikato District Council to the Board confirmed that the council’s parking warden had issued numerous tickets over the summer (see full list below). So the council’s approach was one of policing the street parking rather than providing more. It did install one small sign directing people to car parking areas in James Street that were built in 2015. In an interview on Raglan Community Radio, RCB Chair Alan Vink said that the sign was so small that he hadn’t noticed it.

A count of parking spaces around Raglan found that there are about 300 within a five minute walk of Bow Street.

Past Community Board member Barry Ashby was an advocate of having a Thomas the Tank engine train  that took people from satellite parking areas to Bow Street.

Cr Baddeley has advocated a link from Wi Neera Street through the 1 Wi Neera Street property to connect with the footbridge. People could then park in the Raglan Domain (Papahua/ Te Kopua) and walk to the shopping area.

In other small towns with parking issues, such as Titirangi, the local council has purchased land adjacent to the business area to provide additional off street parking.

On the Raglan Community Board Facebook, a post said, “The problems around summer parking speak to a wider issue of the long term impact of rising visitor numbers on Raglan. A workshop has been called for the near future to look at this issue, and how we can address it.”
