Community Board asks Waikato Council about Raglan’s missing $200K

Matt Holl asks about the missing $200K

At the meeting of the Raglan Community Board on Tuesday 3rd December, Board Member Matt Holl asked Tony Whittaker, GM Strategy & Support at Waikato District Council, what had happened to the development contributions totalling $200K, paid by a group of Raglan developers? These contributions are paid in lieu of providing parking in the CBD area. The Council is then meant to provide parking with these funds. No answer was forthcoming for the Community Board. (A similar question was asked of Waikato Mayor Allan Sanson three years ago by Raglan Chamber of Commerce members. At the time Mayor Sanson said he would get back to Chamber members with answer, but no answer ever came.)

Mr Whittaker explains the intricacies  of Structure Plans, Spatial Plans and Annual Plans to Board member Bob MacLeod

The question came in a discussion on the Raglan Spatial plan and the Annual Plan. Mr Holl said he believed that parking around the CBD was a priority and pointed out that Council was already holding funds to carry out the work. Mr Whittaker explained the difference between a Structure Plan and a Spatial Plan for the members. He said that they were really different names for the same thing.

The Board decided to have a meeting on Tuesday 10th December at 6pm in the Supper Room to determine priorities and supply them to Ngaruawahia. Councillor Baddeley said that Plan Change 8 to the District Plan  was an opportunity to get high priority planning issues in the Spatial Plan and Raglan Naturally attended to.

Earlier the Board approved grants for Raglan Community Radio towards operating costs and for Raglan RSA towards the 2014 ANZAC Day Parade.
