Kia Ora
I am emailing you on behalf of the Waikato District Council and the Raglan Community Board to let you know about the project underway to map out the future of the Whāingaroa Harbour. This project is part of the funding allocated by MBIE to Waikato District Council last year for the wharf improvements.
The Whāingaroa Harbour Strategy is a long-term strategic document which will take a 30-50 year look at the harbour and how it can be enhanced in the future to better-connect Raglan and the surrounding communities.
Some of the things the strategy will consider include:
- How we can move people and goods around the harbour
- What infrastructure may be needed
- Walkways and cycleways to get people to and from the harbour and between jetties
- Initiatives for the harbour edge
We will also ask questions such as: what recreational and commercial activities could take place within the harbour and how can we make it easier for remote communities to access Raglan via the wharf?
We’d like you to come on this journey with us and help shape the future of this important space.
How can I take part?
To kickstart this process, we’ve created a 5-minute online survey so we can get an understanding of how you use the harbour now, why it is important to you and how you’d like to see it enhanced in the future.
We could greatly appreciate it if you would take the time to complete it and to share it with your networks.

This is your chance to have a say early on in the project and help steer the direction of this strategy and ultimately set a path for the future of the harbour. The survey will close at 11.59pm on Sunday 14 November.
It is important that we hear from you so we can make sure the strategy is a reflection of those who live in Raglan and surrounding area and who use the wharf and wider harbour.
What’s next?
We are at the very early stages of this project and are reaching out to you as an important stakeholder within the community. Once we have received all online feedback, we will open the survey to the wider community to get their thoughts on the future of the harbour.
When alert levels allow, we’ll also be running two public open days so we can meet with people face-to-face to discuss this project. In the meantime, if there is anyone you think we should be in touch with, please send their names and contact details through and we will do so.
I would also encourage you to sign up for regular e-newsletter updates to keep you in the loop as we progress with this project:

Thanks
