When asked about vans camping on the corner of Wallis and James Streets in Raglan, the Waikato Regional Council said, “It’s disappointing to hear that people may be disregarding the wellbeing of our environment. This is a timely reminder, however, for people in campervans to use facilities that are readily available.”

The council commented that their incident response staff have received no reports regarding such incidents at this wetland. If anybody does see such incidents occurring, they should be reported promptly by calling 0800 800 402.

Meanwhile over at the district council, after saying earlier in the week that it was OK to camp near the dog run, has now decided that it is not OK to camp near the dog run as it is a wetland reserve. On Thursday, council ambassadors moved the vans on. A check by Raglan 23 late on the night of Friday 5th February, found only one van parked on the wetland reserve. There were a number of vans staying in the boat trailer parking bay in Wallis St.
