Cambrae Road water main secure

Five levels of block laid and slip area backfilled with rock

Waikato District Alliance has repaired the Cambrae Road drop out with a retaining wall built with concrete Lego blocks. The area behind the wall has been backfilled with crushed rock. This means that the Cambrae Road water main and internet cables are now secure. Work will continue today Friday 17th on cleaning drains and catch pits in the vicinity. Top soil will be laid on the new verge and a safety rail erected. After that the road will be sealed. Cambrae Road is stilled closed to through traffic.

Regarding SH 23, Waka Kotahi say that the Raglan to Hamilton road is targeted to reopen in early March. A temporary diversion road is being built around the major slip site that closed State Highway 23 (SH23).

The SH23 dropout that has closed the road

The slip significantly worsened during the Cyclone Gabrielle storm event that devastated much of the North Island; a section of the highway nearly 30m long has now dropped around 2.5m, and has crossed over the centreline.

Earthworks on the temporary diversion road through private property were halted on the morning of Sunday 12 February due to a serious incident on a nearby worksite.
