For your information, here are details of the new Building Financial Capabilities Service now being offered at The Raglan House. This is a FREE service for the Raglan Community.
Building Financial Capability
The aim of our service is to educate people to manage their finances effectively and to empower them so that they can develop their own resources in better money management.
We offer a range of services from one-off crisis advice to comprehensive on-going support and mentoring. Our clients are fully involved and in control of making decisions regarding their income and spending.
Who can get help
Anyone in financial hardship can ask for help — even if you only have a short-term money problem, such as an unexpected expense or a problem paying for healthcare. You don’t need to be referred to the service by Work and Income.
Getting personal help with your money problems
Our Building Financial Capability service is available to help you to:
- deal with your immediate money problems then help you work out your financial goals
- work out a Financial Plan of Action, which may include a budget
- make sure you get all the income you can, including benefits or allowances from Work and Income, and
- connect with a range of other services to make sure you’re getting the right support, for example housing or legal services.
How you get help
There are 2 free services that the Raglan Budget service offer to our community that you can use to get help with money problems.
Financial Capability Mentoring
This service is for those who want to learn how to manage their money well. This service will educate you to become financially capable within only 6 visits between you and our Financial Mentor
What does this mean to be financially capable?
- Being able to consistently afford to pay ALL of your bills and expenses on time.
- Being able to set and achieve short and long term financial goals
- Being able to have a backup savings account to cover unforeseen and unexpected costs
- Being able to manage debts
- Being able to use debts and loans smartly
Or you can take part in a group and learn from others who are in a situation like yours through the MoneyMates programme.
MoneyMates
This FREE service is for those who want to learn how to manage their money well within a group environment (could be an entire household or a group of whanau or friends etc.). This service will educate you to become financially capable within 6 group training sessions with the Financial Mentor. If clients decide they find it preferable to receive individual sessions they are able to change from group sessions (MoneyMates) to individual services (Financial Capability Mentoring) at any time.
