Bow St closed on 29 & 30 Oct for resealing

Update 30.10.12:  RESEAL UNDERWAY TODAY.  – Plenty of parking in Cliff St.

Update 29.10.12:  WET WEATHER HAS DELAYED THE START OF THE BOW ST RESEALING.  SHOULD BE FINE FROM TUESDAY SO WILL PROBABLY START THEN

A large illuminated sign in Raglan’s Main Rd, tells us that the planned start date for resealing Bow Street is today, Monday 29th October. This start is subject to weather conditions. It is not known whether today’s light drizzle will be enough to stop the contractor, Downer, who is carrying out the work for the Waikato District Council. It is expected that it will take two days to complete this work. WDC’s Road Advisory Page gives no hints on what will happen when.

General Manager Roading & Projects, Ian Gooden said while there will be full pedestrian access at all times on Bow Street, a detour will be in place for traffic.

“It’s unfortunate we have to close parts of Bow Street and we apologise for any inconvenience to traffic, however the end result will be worth it. Once the work is finished we will have a well maintained and most importantly a safer street,” he said.

In the type of quirky move that the Waikato District Council is known for, its road marking contractor repainted the white and yellow lines in Bow St last week.  It is likely that these pristine road markings will be covered up by the new seal this week.  (WDC have now advised that this was due to a mistake by the contractor who will not be charging for this work.)

WDC is encouraging visitors to the area to use car parking on Bankart Street, Wallis Street and Wainui Road, as no car parking will be available on Bow Street while the resealing is being carried out. As these streets are normally full of parked cars anyway, I wonder where people will park?  Perhaps in Stewart St?

  1. The dates on the sign and the dates on that website aren’t the same. Good news that we’re getting a Sunday bus again, even if WDC can’t run buses any better than their website.

  2. Thanks John. I now see that the Council website has some dates:

Bow Street One Lane Closure Wednesday 31 October to Thursday 1 November (weather dependant) to allow contractor to reseal Bow Street. Detours will be in place, full pedestrian access at all times.

Illuminated sign still says 29th and 30th.

    Take your pick!
