Raglan’s first bike lane – a 60 metre length outside the new i-SITE, is a handy parking spot for visitors popping into the i-SITE. The bike lane came about when Waikato District Council was asked by the Raglan Community Board to build a paved footpath from the i-SITE back towards the central town area. In the type of quirky move that the Council is becoming known for, it constructed a bike lane instead of a footpath. Visitors to the i-SITE can either walk on the cycle lane or on the dirt verge. As the bike lane lacks signage cars are mistaking it for additional parking spaces and parking on it, preventing cyclists or pedestrians from using the bike lane.
I see it now has signage – marked out with parking spaces. Maybe the Council has taken its usual note of a Community Board request? Quirky to charge us an $18 targeted rate for a group they take so much note of!
Yesterday I saw people using the bike lane as a footpath. Only to be expected!
