Tuesday’s Landcare event organized by Waikato Regional Council in conjunction with Whaingaroa Harbour Care had ninety one people along. They learnt about the successful projects including monitoring of Wainui stream. The field day on 6th May allowed representatives from each landcare group and other community groups to discuss issues affecting their areas and to develop an understanding of each others’ work.
After the morning session held at the Sunset Motel conference room, visits were made to Raglan plantings and stream monitoring sites. There was also a fish monitoring demonstration.
The groups learned that there is still much to do lcoally with most of Waingaro River still to be fenced.
Planting work is continuing in the Wainaui Bush Park with Friends of Wainui resuming its tree planting season from next Monday (12th May) between 9 and noon. John Lawson says that all volunteers are welcome.
