On the 9th August, Raglan Ramblers are heading south to Schnackenberg Beach via Ruapuke. The low tide’s about 9.28am (some may go 8am- see below) we may not be able to get to the best beach, but the rocks in the photo are worth a look.
Low tide is at 9.28am, so Ramblers say they will need to hustle to get around to the bay where the rock formations are, AND collect kai moana (mussels, in this case.)
What leader Christine is proposing is they split into 2 groups; an earlier leaving group and a later leaving group.
Group Fast will (a) leave James Street on the dot of 8am.
(b) forego morning tea en route to the bay. (Sorry!)
(c) be prepared to walk quickly all the way (about 5km.)
(d) bring an extra bag to collect mussels.
(e) don’t forget to carry water.
Group Gentle will (a) leave James Street at the civilised time of 9am (the usual time)
(b) have a morning tea break en route.
(c) take more time to stroll, pause, take photos …..
(d) don’t forget to carry water.
Both groups will meet for lunch on the northern side of the bay and stroll back together along the beach and over several paddocks to where the cars are parked at Simon Thompson’s house.
People in both groups need to be reasonably fit to do this walk. (about 10km round trip).
As they often see plastic waste on the beach, please consider bringing an extra bag to collect some of it.
John L has kindly agreed to lead Group Gentle. Christine will be the taskmaster leading Group Fast!
Remember to bring your lunch.
There is no membership – the only cost is 10 cents per km to share travel costs. Details from John 825 7866. Check out Raglan Ramblers on Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/RaglanRamblers/. Most walks start at 9am from the James St/ Wallis St corner near Catholic church.
