Travellers heading North from Raglan on Sunday 23rd August may wish to take a different route than SH1 as there will be a detour in place at Huntly while work is underway on the footbridge. See below for full details.
Media Release: Waikato District Council, 17 August 2015
SH1 road closure and diversions for Huntly Footbridge removal
Motorists are advised SH1 through Huntly will be closed from 8pm, Sunday 23 August until 1am, Monday 24 August to remove damaged framework on the footbridge.
During the temporary closure, traffic will be detoured off SH1 via Fletcher Street, Hakanoa Street, William Street, Rayner Road, Tumate Mahuta Drive and Tainui Bridge Rd back to SH1.
For health and safety reasons Huntly Footbridge remains closed to pedestrians. The footbridge will re-open once repairs and maintenance is complete, likely to be late September.
