On August 15th, Raglan Ramblers will be visiting Lake Kainui (formerly known as Lake D) at Horsham Downs. The walk is round a three kilometre track, on the edge of the 25 hectare peat lake. It is still named Lake D on the 1:50,000 map. The track opened in March 2018 provding a close up view of the lakes. Up to now, the best view of these lakes was from the top of the Hakarimatas. If there’s time, the Ramblers says they’ll look at other nearby peat lakes. Please bring your lunch for this one.
Walks usually start 9 am, Wednesdays from Wainui Rd car park (between the Museum and the Fire Station). There is no membership – the only cost is 10 cents per km to share travel costs. Details from John 825 7866. Check out Raglan Ramblers on Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/RaglanRamblers/ .
Each “Rambler” accepts responsibility for any accident or injury received while travelling, or walking over private property. Be prepared – carry enough food, clothing, first aid kit for emergencies and preferably a mobile phone.
