Aug 11: Raglan Community Board meeting

Summary of Board agenda prepared by Whaingaroa Environmental Defence Incorporated Registered no.1912150, Secretary: John Lawson, 51 Cliff St, Raglan 07 825 7866 email johnragla@gmail.com

The next Board meeting is Tuesday 11 August at 6pm in the Town Hall Supper Room. The public forum starts at 5.30pm (RCB decided to revert to evenings at an unadvertised workshop held on 30 June). The forum gives an opportunity to discuss issues, but you can also contact the Community Board members. See below.

The agenda runs to 308 pages in 4 sections at http://waidc.govt.nz/Your-Council/Meetings-(1)/Community-boards/Raglan.aspx. Most of it is taken up with a reprint of the 2008 Structure Plan Discussion Document, a 2014 report on strengthening Council and Community Board engagement and a report on the plan to merge the water assets of WDC, Waipa and Hamilton. Phil McCabe has a slot on the agenda to talk about KASM. Raglan and Waikato TPP Action hasn’t got the Trans Pacific Partnership on the agenda, but will talk about it in the public forum. Other items on the agenda include –

  1. Proposed Public Places Bylaw covering parking, freedom camping (report says work needed to identify areas where camping might be banned) and election signs.

  2. Staff are in the process of undertaking further investigation regarding the need for light industrial zoned land in the Raglan area. This also includes a transportation assessment for the Nau Mai Business Park.”

  3. Report on May sewage discharge – “stakeholders could have been notified earlier . . . in future they will be notified of the event as soon as possible”. [another leak has just happened and it took 40 hours to issue a public notice – https://www.raglan23.co.nz/2015/district-council-sends-report-to-regulator-on-wastewater-spill-into-raglan-harbour/]

  4. Footpath priorities (out of date list) – 2011/12 Wi Neera St, Smith St-Te Hutewai Rd, 2012/13 widen at The Shack, Stewart St to top, Rose St, 2013/14 Gilmour St, Opoturu Rd, 2017/18 Point St, Nihinihi Ave, Smith St, 2019/20 Karekare Ave, Cliff St.

  5. Coastal Reserves Committee minutes of 15/6, “The Committee is not convinced that the planned changes to traffic management of the one way bridge would stop the speed issues on the reserve.” (next meeting 5.30pm Mon 17 August Supper Room).

  6. RCB asked what avenue to “keep going on about” the bus? Staff advice – contact Waikato Regional Council [WRC’s response was – “any change to service levels for Raglan bus route (e.g. weekend or evening services) is contingent on the additional funding being confirmed by WDC”!]

  7. James St grass strip beside boardwalk replaced by concrete.

  8. Community Board Survey – Board members to be asked to complete on-line survey to improve communication between council and boards.

  9. Discretionary fund has $6,818. (Fri 2/10 next deadline for applications)

  10. Annual Report for Raglan i-Site (the agenda would be even bigger if this report hadn’t been missed out of it).

Should WED be taking up these, or any other issues? There is still no report on a heated swimming pool and no mention of items previously left unresolved, such as a water meter cost/benefit analysis, Waingaro Hot Springs (subject to WDC approval, may open in 2 weeks), footbridge signs, or a tsunami evacuation plan.
