Media Release: Waikato District Council, 14 December 2012
Raglan’s main street, Bow Street, will have asphalt laid in time for the busy Christmas and New Year holiday season.
Bow Street was recently resealed, and while the contractor carried out the job as required, a new surface is being laid for the holiday period after requests from the Raglan community.
The work will take place on December 16, 17 and 18, starting at 6pm and finishing at 6am, on Bow Street from the pedestrian crossing outside Westpac to Cliff Street.
Downer is the contractor who will lay the asphalt, with the work subject to suitable weather conditions on the specified days. If adverse weather conditions mean the work cannot be completed by December 18, the worst parts of Bow Street will have asphalt laid, with the remainder done in the New Year.
Bow Street will be closed to traffic while the work is being undertaken, with a detour in place. It will be reopened to traffic between 6 am and 6 pm. Pedestrian access to Bow Street will not be affected.
During construction there will be noise and possibly some disruption as trucks arrive and depart Bow Street.
The work will involve preparation to smooth the surface prior to asphalt being laid. It is anticipated road markings will be put on Bow Street on Wednesday morning, which may cause minor traffic disruption.

The company who supplies the paint for the road marking must be rubbing their hands with glee It’s proved a very merry Xmas for them
The paint company should have enough in the kitty for a bumper Christmas party. I’ve lost count of how many times the lines have been repainted.
