Raglan artist Jenny Rhodes, was awarded Life Membership of the Raglan Community Arts Council, at the 2016 AGM on 13th September. Rodger Gallagher, Chairperson of the Raglan Arts Council said, that the award was to recognise Jenny’s outstanding contribution to the arts in Raglan Whaingaroa over many years.
Born in Raglan and a former primary school teacher, Jenny has been an artist from an early age. Mainly at home in the field of watercolour and acrylic painting, the artist also does illustrations and pencil sketches. She has painted many of Raglan’s historic buildings, including some that don’t exist in many more.
A former surfer, Jenny loves the beach. That is where she collects the material for her wall-hangings, arrangements of driftwood, shells and all sorts of flotsam and jetsam (apart from the items that smell, as she adds, with a wink).
