Bestselling New Zealand author Emma Galloway returns with a feast of new and seasonal vegetarian and gluten-free recipes filled with her signature inventive, flavour-driven techniques, minimalist styling and stunning photography.
In an age of year-round availability of produce, hydroponics and hi-tech preservation techniques, it is easy to forget that food is seasonal. In A Year in My Real Food Kitchen, Emma follows the rhythms of her own garden and kitchen, and shows you how to choose the right produce at the right time and get the most of it.
Growing up vegetarian on an organic vegetable farm and then going on to cook professionally as a chef for many years set her on the track to becoming food writer, but Emma attributes her ultimate success to years of simply playing in the kitchen with the produce from her little garden and local farmers markets.
Discovering her children were gluten-intolerant as babies only increased her drive to cook more nourishing locally produced food from scratch, especially given store-bought gluten-free products were tasteless and devoid of nutrients.
‘Food is life, but it’s so much more than sustenance alone,’ says Emma. ‘People are much more aware of what they put into their bodies now. Taking ownership of what you eat is the single most powerful choice we have as humans.’
Nutritious, delicious and real, Emma Galloway’s new collection of recipes will inspire every home cook to explore the bounty of the seasons and re-connect with a more natural way of eating.
