On the 26th April, Raglan Ramblers will be visiting Coopers Creek to see progress with the Waikato Regional Council’s work to clean the Waitetuna.
The Waitetuna River restoration project aims to restore the river to the gravel-lined stream system of 50-60 years ago. There are around 25 landowners involved, with seven undertaking larger lengths of fencing and planting. Six kilometres of river upstream of the bridge has been restored so far, and around 2600 native plants have been placed in the ground.
Along the way there are views to Pirongia, the windfarm and Karamu. Please bring your lunch.
Walks usually start 9am, Wednesdays from Wainui Rd car park (next to Raglan Fire Station). There is no membership – the only cost is 10 cents per km to share travel costs. Details from John 825 7866. Check out Raglan Ramblers on Facebook
Each “Rambler” accepts responsibility for any accident or injury received while travelling, or walking over private property. Be prepared – carry enough food, clothing, first aid kit for emergencies and preferably a mobile phone.
its about time, that river runs the colour of coffee at the slightest hint of rain. Tonnes of sediment flowing into the Raglan Harbour every day and smothering the bed of the stream which kills off most of the insect, plant and fish life. Not to mention silting up the estuary.
