Pete Fountain was discovered on a car yard. He performs music from his heart and writes about real life and has released two albums, “Will” and “The Dawn”. Pete blends acoustic instruments with rock, soul and pacific flavours.
Pete Fountain was immersed in the New Zealand music scene for over 10 years with varied degrees of success both solo and in bands when he made a career and life changing decision. The decision was weighed against the years writing, performing, travelling and the toll being a musician was taking on his role as a parent, a provider and a husband. So he hung up his guitar and walked away.
Was it not for a chance meeting with producer Chris Prenter in a car yard some years later you may never have heard of Pete Fountain again. With persistence and encouragement Chris managed to coax Pete into meeting over a beer, to play some songs and talk about all things musical. It soon became very clear to Chris that this was a “very special moment in time” and that there was “something more here” than just a friendly, singing salesman.
Within weeks Chris had Pete recording an E.P entitled “Lifespeed”. The CD encapsulated the year’s prior battling broken dreams, financial pressures and parenthood at a young age. A spark reignites…
In January 2012, Pete took his annual leave and went with his family to the beach. Many early morning walks, surf sessions and discussions’ followed. Weighing up quality of life, family time and future aspirations, Pete’s wife calmly states, “You’re more alive, a better friend, and a better person when you are making music. If you don’t follow this dream then what example are we setting?”
Pete calls up his old friend/Producer Chris Prenter, and quits his job. He now lives in Papamoa opposite the beach with his wife, dog, 2 kids and his grandchild “Ryker”.
