Raglan Ramblers are heading north to Wairamarama on April 19th.
Organiser Richard Gemmell says: Meet at James Street as usual, 9.00 am .This ramble does involve more driving than we normally do with a trip of 80 kms which takes about 80 minutes ,each way. The route takes us through Ohautira Road to H’way 22. At that junction we turn left and go north on H’way 22 for 34 kms then turn left into Matakitaki Road.
The next 15km is on gravel road. At the end of Matakitaki Road turn right on the Wairamarama-Onewhero road and travel 5kms to number 1378 on the left, about 1 km after getting back on a sealed road. (This is Richard’s old farm. He says it is mostly sold but they still own the house and a few acres.) We will have morning tea at the house then take lunch with us onto the farm. Part of the walk is quite difficult terrain as it is rocky and steep. Have a walking stick and sturdy footwear. I reckon we will finish the walk around 2.15pm. On the way home I suggest we come via Nikau Cafe to break the journey and have a coffee. This makes the trip back about 20 minutes longer and I reckon we should be back in Raglan between 4.30 and 5 pm.
If anyone is coming from Hamilton let Richard Gemmell know. He says he thinks the best way is to drive to Waingaro then continue on and meet us at the junction of Ohautira Road with H’way 22 around 9.30 am.
There is no membership – the only cost is 10 cents per km to share travel costs. Details from John 825 7866. Check out Raglan Ramblers on Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/RaglanRamblers/. Most walks start at 9am from the James St/ Wallis St corner near Catholic church.
