On the 12th April Raglan Ramblers have a new walk on Cassie’s Farm. The address is 815 Maungakawa Road, Te Miro, Cambridge 3496. It takes about an hour and a quarter to drive from Raglan. If you are coming from Hamilton we will meet you there. On arrival go right at the letterbox and stay on the tar seal until you reach the half round barn. Park on the side of the track so the exit isn’t blocked whilst we are there. There is a toilet near to where we will be parking which we can use.
There will be plenty of walking up to about seven kilometres, not too hilly but some upward slopes. There are some lovely benches dotted around so places to rest or just take in the view and return to the car if you prefer. There is wonderful bush planting and a herd of 60 Jersey heifers. Since 2008, wonderful bush plating has been done every year so there is lots to see and a wonderful view across Waikato. The tracks are well looked after so just the usual sturdy footwear and layers will be all good (the farm is on the ridge so can be windy). Poles will help with the slopes and if you would like to go “off piste” to explore some of the bush.
The owner will meet us at morning tea to tell us some of the history and about his future plans for the farm. Bring morning tea and Lunch. We should be back in Raglan by 4pm.
There is an episode of Country Calendar about the farm:
TVNZ plus Country Calendar 2021 episode 27 19th September.
It gives the history of the farm and good views of where we will be walking.
There is no membership – the only cost is 10 cents per km to share travel costs. Details from John 825 7866. Check out Raglan Ramblers on Facebook-https://www.facebook.com/RaglanRamblers/. Most walks start at 9am from the James St/ Wallis St corner near Catholic church.
