Alan Vink – candidate for Raglan ward councillor of Waikato District

Raglan 23 asked a few question of the the candidates standing for the Raglan ward councillor position. Below are the responses from Alan Vink.

1. Tell us a few facts about yourself.

Married with four adult sons and two grandchildren. A background in Secondary and Tertiary education, Baptist Ministry , extensive experience in governance. Last three years as Deputy Chair of the RCB.

2. What are the top three issues for the Council across the District?

  1. The level of Targeted Rates especially for solid waste, forestry and waste water.
  2. The diversity and the spread of our district and the challenge of meaningful community engagement.
  3. Empowering Community Boards. I believe that Community Boards have a vital role to play to ensure good and cost effective outcomes for there respective communities.

3. What are the top five issues for the Council in and around Raglan?

  1. Wastewater. The new reticulation system for Whaanga Coast and pump station upgrade.
  2. Stormwater. Continue improvements to Raglan’s Stormwater network.
  3. Encourage new businesses
  4. Building of the proposed Sports complex.

4. Describe a community project you have played a key role in implementing.

Co-founded the Raglan Chamber of Commerce in 2008.

5. Describe your connection to Raglan?

Lived here for 6 years

6. What is your view on limiting increases in rates?

I would like to see them stay as close to the CPI as possible.

7. What is your view on fluoridisation of water?

I haven’t researched this issue enough as yet.
