Aaron’s ability to improvise saw him impress the judges in this week’s dessert challenge on MasterChef New Zealand. Contestants had to recreate guest chef Andrew Brown’s deconstructed lemon meringue pie. Aaron forgot to get the key ingredient of freeze-dried raspberries, but he improvised, making crystalised raspberries, which Simon Gault descibed as “genius”. His matching strawberry, lime and pomegranate sparkling wine cocktail also impressed, with Simon describing it as “a delight”. Aaron now progresses to the MasterChef top four.

MasterChef New Zealand continues next Sunday on TV One.
