A weekend of great weather

Sun up and glistening on Raglan Harbour

A fantastic Friday is being followed by another two great days of sunny weather. A Saturday to be on the beaches or out on the harbour. And then 9am Sunday in Raglan sees the Raglan Creative Market at the Old School Arts centre in Stewart St. And at the Surf Club in the Wainui reserve there will be a junior surf open day from 10am to 12 noon.

  1. You’re right Saturday is a morning of fantastic weather, however the peace and quiet is spoiled by three light planes circling the township, harbour and ocean since 7.00am, preventing the ‘quiet enjoyment’ of Raglan residents. These pleasure crafts are flying low over our houses. Raglan has a large sign at the the entrance to town prohibiting engine braking, Jet skis are confined to designated lanes, out of earshot. NZ has laws preventing ‘boy racers’ disturbing the peace. Local council has ‘noise control officers’ to prevent people and music annoying neighbours. Why then for small change do these planes have free range over Raglan. I understand that Council pays around $10,000 per annum to keep the airfield mowed yet Flying clubs pay around $500 to destroy our peace and quiet and privacy. What emergency plans are in place if one of these light aircraft crash over our town?

    1. Those planes on Saturday were quite annoying. From earlier enquiries there don’t seem to be any specific requirements about where these planes can fly over the town. There are no special safety rules that have to be followed other than normal civil aviation ones for uncontrolled airfields. Any emerency would be handled by the local emergencys services.
