In what seemed like a co-ordinated campaign, but probably happened at random, Raglan residents were subjected to a day of blockages and outages on Wednesday.
It started with a Police road block in Wallis St, checking on whether drivers had children correctly restrained in approved car seats.
After the morning traffic peak, Potter Construction started work on laying the new sewer on the western causeway of the Opotoru Bridge. Traffic was limited to one direction at a time under the control of the Raglan Fire Brigade’s Operational Support Unit.
At the same time WEL Networks moved into Cambrae Road, blocking Lower Cambrae Road completely and leaving room for only one lane of traffic on Upper Cambrae Road. The linemen proceeded to replace two suspect power poles with new ones. Later in the morning, a power outage occurred while aerial cables were transferred to the new poles. Some residents also lost phone and broadband for a couple of hours. And if that wasn’t enough disruption for Cambrae Road residents, WDC and Porters arrived and shut the water off. They then began installing water meter manifolds and new blue water meter boxes. While all this was going it meant that there was no power or water in Cambrae Road this afternoon. All services were restored later in the afternoon by 4pm.
