2016 RAFFAs awarded

Saturday 24th saw Whaingaroa filmmakers and guests walk the red carpet for the 2016 Raglan Arts Film Festival Awards (RAFFAs).  The awards celebrate the achievements of local Raglan filmmakers. The event was held at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre on Saturday evening (24.09.16).

Guests included filmmakers, Barbara Kuriger MP for Taranaki-King Country with her husband Louis. Festival supporters included Richard Gemmell from Waikato District Creative Communities and Heidi Tidmarsh from Bow St Depot.

After an initial mingling and welcome, and announcement of the nominees, the dinner prepared by Raglan Kindergarten parents was served in the marquee.

Then following a screening off all the nominee films, the awards were announced and presented.

The RAFFAS awarded were:

RAFFA for Best Action Film

This award prize is a RAFFA coaster and cash prize of $50.
Nominees are: Billy Lee Pope for OLD TOAST
Ariana Livingston for BEING AN EQUESTRIAN
Vincent Ledger for THE CHASE

WINNER: Vincent Ledger for THE CHASE
AND a Bow St Depot meal voucher for
Highly Commended to Billy Lee Pope for OLD TOAST

RAFFA for Best Environmental Film

This award is a RAFFA coaster and cash prize of $50.
Nominees are:
Kevin Etherington for MAUI DOLPHINS – THE RESURRECTION
Andy Duggan for GET A BAG
Alison Teal for DANIEL KEREOPA

RAFFA for Best Human Interest

Award is a RAFFA coaster and cash prize of $50.

Award: BOW St Depot GRAND Phoenix Palm Award

The Grand Phoenix Palm award – (it’s not the Palm D’or from Cannes but it is our Raglan version of this prestigious award) It is also an award that the RAFFA awards panel includes judging as well as film talent but also a strong connection to Whaingaroa. This award also includes $200 sponsorship.
