Manu Bay (also known as The Point) is a world famous surfing area. It is about six km south of Raglan. The surf at Manu Bay came to international attention in 1966 after Manu Bay was featured in the movie ‘Endless Summer’. Manu Bay is the home of the Point Board Rider’s Club who hold regular competitions. Every year Manu Bay is also home to several international surfing competitions.

Surfing
Great surf most of the year attracts surfers from around the world to Manu Bay. You’ll find the longest, most accessible and consistent left-hand break in the world at Manu Bay. Perfect waves allow cruises of up to two kms or ten minutes to be achieved.

Walking
Bryant Reserve Walk
The short Bryant Reserve walk takes you from the Raglan Crusade Bible Camp (formerly the Bryant Trust Camp) down through a small patch of coastal forest to Ngarunui Beach. The elegant nikau palm is a feature of this track.
A third of the way down there is an excellent lookout providing views northward along the coast. Carpark to coast: 20 minutes.
Tattooed Rocks
These rocks are located on the foreshore between the northern end of the Manu Bay reserve and the southern end of Ngarunui Beach. For a walk over the boulders at low tide, leave the Manu Bay reserve adjacent to the boat launching ramp. Head north over the boulders. It is tough going. About half way to Ngarunui beach you’ll find the rocks close to the bottom of the cliff. The rocks are carved with scroll-type patterns. You can continue on to Ngarunui Beach if you have somebody available to pick you up there in the carpark near the Surf Life Saving Club, otherwise return the you way came back to the Manu Bay Reserve.
Fishing and Boating
The launching ramp at the northern end of the Manu Bay reserve allows direct launching into the Tasman Sea. There is plenty of parking for boat trailers.

Getting to Manu Bay
From Raglan drive down Wainui Road, keep going across the one way bridge, continue on Wainui Road passing Poihakena Marae on the right, Kereopa Drive on the right, Wainui Reserve on the right, Upper Wainui Road on the left, though the patch of native bush, passing Camp Raglan on the right, then onto Manu Bay.
The Manu Bay beach reserve area is on the right. The road into the reserve is at the southern end. There is plenty of parking space in the reserve. There are public toilets and changing rooms in the reserve.
Public Bus Service to Manu Bay
A limited bus service that runs twice a day on Saturday and Sundays is provided from Hamilton Terminal and Raglan by the Route 23 bus from November to April.

There is no public bus service to Manu Bay during the winter months. Hitchhiking is a popular way of getting from Raglan to Manu Bay. Head out from Raglan and start thumbing a ride when you are past the Union Church on the corner of Stewart Street and Wainui Road.
