Rally New Zealand, while not a World Rally Championship event in 2011, is the second round of the 2011 New Zealand Rally Championship, which sees New Zealand’s top rally drivers battle it out for line honours and valuable championship points.
Strong entries are expected for the Possum Bourne Memorial Rally. Run by the Pukekohe Car Club in honour of the late Possum Bourne, this diverse field of rally cars and competitors power through the same special stages as the top tier competitors.
New in 2011 – and expected to be a real crowd-pleaser – is the Rally New Zealand Historic Rally. This draws on the ever-growing worldwide enthusiasm for historic rallying with the Rally New Zealand Historic Rally class open to genuine historic cars built before 1987. Fans can delight in the sights and sounds of seeing the classic Ford Escorts, Mazda’s mighty rotary RX3 and RX7 models, Porsches, Holdens, Toyotas and Nissans in action on some of New Zealand’s very best rally roads.
Rally New Zealand’s High Octane at Hampton also features top class racing, displays and entertainment. It’s must-do, family-friendly extravaganza of motorsport.
Fans can sign up for regular newsletters via the event’s website, www.rallynz.org.nz, and also keep up with the latest news via Rally New Zealand’s Facebook page. Tickets for the two-day Rally New Zealand Hampton Downs extravaganza will go on sale in March with special early-bird ticket prices available.
