Update 9.42am, morning of Friday 28th:

A man is in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital following a violent domestic incident in Raglan overnight.

Detective Sergeant Dave Grace of the Hamilton CIB said staff from Huntly and Hamilton were called in to assist local staff following a dispute between two men at an address.

“During the argument a 32-year-old man allegedly struck the victim in the head with the butt of a .22 cal rifle.

“The 26-year-old man was knocked to the ground, unconscious, and his attacker phoned for an ambulance. The man underwent surgery in Waikato Hospital overnight and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit in a critical but stable condition.”

Mr Grace said the offender was arrested and charged overnight and will be appearing in the Hamilton District Court this morning in relation to the incident.

“Here is yet another example of where people allow to themselves to get out of control in a domestic situation and what we would ask is that people who find themselves in such disputes take time out, walk away, because the consequences as we have seen can be very serious.”
