It seems that when the 40 k speed limit was introduced in Te Mata, the signs were installed in places that made common sense rather than in the places that were legally allowed. So now WDC is wanting to make an administrative correction so the signage lines up with reality.

Te Mata Road
The speed limit through Te Mata was reduced to 40km/hr in the 2022 Bylaw update. During installation of the school threshold signage and roadmarking, it was discovered that the length of the 40km/hr area was insufficient to ensure safe placement of the signs. As a result, the southern end of the 40km/hr area needed to be extended by 90m.
Recommendation
The following changes are recommended for Te Mata Road: Whāingaroa Ward proposed SMP 4
- Lower the speed limit to 40km/hr on Te Mata Road 270m south of Ruapuke Road and 380m south of Ruapuke Road
It should be noted that this is an administrative correction as the signage has been installed in the proposed location.
Rangitahi
The council is also wanting to reduce the speed limit to 40 K in parts of the Rangitahi as recent development to the southeast has resulted in a number of roads now falling outside of the existing 40km/hr speed limited area as shown below.
