Whāingaroa (Raglan) Wharf Projects update

Waikato District Council Wharf Project Team

Kia ora and welcome to the Whāingaroa (Raglan) Wharf Projects update.

It has been a busy time on site at the wharf as construction crews near the finish line for the under-wharf maintenance and repair works. Pre-construction works on the pontoon, eastern walkway and kayak ramp are also underway with plans to start construction set for early next year.
In this update: More on the under-wharf maintenance repairs Next steps for the pontoon, walkway and kayak ramp
What’s coming up Under wharf maintenance works
Over the coming weeks, construction crews will finish the maintenance and repair works on the eastern side of the wharf and on the Dolphin Pier. The pier will be closed at times while this work is underway. All going well, this will be completed before Christmas, the scaffolding will be removed and the community will be able to enjoy Dolphin Pier over summer.

Pontoon, eastern walkway and kayak ramp
Right now, we are completing pre-construction works. This work prepares the site for construction to start in the new year. It includes finalising ecological and environmental monitoring plans, holding a pre-construction meeting and setting up the site for construction. Construction is expected to start in the New Year starting with the delivery of the rocks to the site, pouring asphalt for the eastern walkway and kayak ramp and installing piles into the foreshore for the new pontoon. There will be minor disruption during this time while we are delivering the rocks to site. However, the boat ramp will remain open and there will be pedestrian and traffic management in place.  We expect the project to be completed by late April 2023 and will continue to keep the community update as construction progresses.

Our team will be taking a well-deserved break and will return to site mid-January. We’ll have more information to share with you on what to expect in early 2023 in our final update for the year which will be shared next month.
