Feb 27: Covid cases in Whāingaroa now at 58. DHB provides data for cases analysed with RATs

There were 1858 new cases found with PCR and RAT tests by Waikato DHB in the Waikato on Sunday 27th. Twenty two new cases in Raglan Whāingaroa, along with cases now confirmed to the area lifts the total of active covid cases to fifty eight. Please see image for all Waikato locations. There are 332 cases where the location has still to be determined.

Our updated projection of Raglan Whāingaroa cases based on Waikato DHB data, using polynomial curve fit modelling, still indicates that there may be over 70 community cases in Raglan by early March. As more base data is now available the model has been extended to 6th March with a projection of 170 cases by then. See graph.

There were 1854 vaccinations given in the Waikato yesterday.

There are 24 individuals receiving care in the Waikato Hospital COVID-19 ward and a further 18 COVID-19 positive individuals have received care for unrelated conditions.

Note: Previously listed case locations will at times be reclassified following investigations. Some cases have been allocated to locations outside Waikato so contribute to our case totals but are not listed in case locations. Figures include some cases residing outside Waikato. Ministry of Health’s daily reported cases may differ slightly from those reported at a DHB or local public health unit level. This is because of different reporting cut off times and the assignment of cases between regions, for example when a case is tested outside their usual region of residence.

TESTING

People should only get tested if they have cold or flu symptoms, have been identified as household contact of a positive COVID-19 case and need a day 3 or day 10 test, or have been asked to get tested by a health official.
The most common early symptoms of the Omicron variant are a sore or scratchy throat, and a runny nose.

Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) are available at Waikato Community Testing Centres. The testing team will determine whether you need a rapid antigen test (RAT).

Please visit our testing locations page for more information www.waikatodhb.health.nz/cbac or www.healthpoint.co.nz/covid-19/waikato

NOTE: RAT testing at GPs and Pharmacies

  • At this time, please do not call or visit your GP for a RAT unless you have COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Pharmacies are not able to provide RATs for those with symptoms or contacts. They are only able to provide RATs for unvaccinated asymptomatic people required to attend court or to travel overseas.
