New footpath coming for Main Road

Waikato District Alliance at work on the new footpath

Waikato District Council contractors are building a new footpath on the northern side of Main Road, Raglan near Cross Street. WDC staff say that the project is costing $160,000 and was approved by the Council. The work is part of the annual footpath programme associated with the Waikato District Alliance budget with the programme coming through the WDC Roading Team. The work started on 31/01/2020 and is scheduled for completion on 20/03/2020.

Long queues of vehicles caused by stop go traffic controls

Stop go and one way traffic controls are in place with large queues of vehicles building up at peak periods so if you are in a hurry it may be better to go via Government Road.

A Council spokesperson said that the purpose of the work is to create a new section of footpath to connect existing footpaths between 16 Main Road and Cross Street. The work also includes kerb and channel and associated drainage.

The work includes 200m of sub-soil drains, culvert extensions and installation of two manholes and catch-pits. There are minor associated earthworks, 250m of new kerb and channel work, and 330m2 of new footpath.

There is no provision for a cycle lane in the project.
