Update 22nd Dec 2018: The toilet block is now open and in use.
The word on Bow Street was that the reason the new industrial toilet block in Cliff Street wasn’t open for public use, was that it was waiting for the Mayor to open it. Everything appeared ready to go, apart from some orange safety cones blocking the pathway. Investigations by Raglan 23 have found that there will be no Mayoral opening for the new toilet block.
The reason why the new toilet is not in use was that it was waiting for a building inspector from Waikato District regulatory division to check it out. A council spokesperson said that, “It is expected that the facility would be inspected soon and so, assuming that inspection is successful, the toilets will be opened this week.”
The Council used part of a $868,000 grant from the Government’s Tourism Infrastructure Fund to pay for the toilets.
We also asked about the promise made by the Raglan Community Board that they would be decorating the toilet so it wouldn’t look sterile and industrial.
The council spokesperson said, “As with the Joyce Petchell Park toilets, once open to the public it is then in the community board’s hands regarding the timing of decoration work. The first community board meeting after the completion of the toilets is due to take place in February.
Council thought it would be the best outcome for the community to hand over decoration to the board as we believe they are best placed to ensure the decoration fits in to the “vibe” of Raglan.”
It is a pity the toilets don’t have a rear window. If they did it would be the best view in Raglan.
What’s an ‘industrial’ toilet? And, I like toilets to be ‘sterile’.
The industrial style features stainless steel. The toilet block would fit in well in an industrial park.
Isn’t this a positive for raglan? Seems to be a lot of negative.
