Work on power lines means that the power supply to Raglan may be disrupted, although WEL has now said that the risk is minimal. In large newspaper advertisements, WEL Networks advised that they will continue upgrading the sole overhead power line feeding power to the Te Uku substation which provides power to Raglan.
Working on the overhead line which was originally built in 1935, WEL has replaced all of the insulators over the last few years. It is now carrying out additional work to upgrade the overhead lines from Cogswell Road to Whatawhata.
This work involves replacing the old wires on the current line with new wire. The planned maintenance and upgrade work will bring the line up to WEL’s standards and improve the security of supply in the local area. Jack Ninnes, Business Development Manager for WEL said, “It is work being done to bring this line up to WEL standards. The risk of disruption during the standardisation work is very minimal. As always, however, in the event power is interrupted while doing this work, we have procedures in place to ensure power is restored as promptly as possible.”
