“Over the past 48 hours our electricity network has taken a hammering from wind and trees falling on lines.

“Today our first priority is make the network safe. A number of areas across the region were without power through Friday night and we’d like to thank the residents for their support and patience during this difficult time especially those who provided our crews with a hot cup of coffee which was certainly appreciated.

“Over the weekend our crews will return to areas still affected by outages to repair lines or assets which have been damaged by the storm.

“Safety remains our highest priority at all times – for our staff and our community. If you see power lines down or trees in lines, please stay away and call 0800 800 935.

“Once these issues have been addressed we will move to maintenance eg in Hamilton (Holland Road) a transformer was smashed by a falling tree and will need to be repaired before normal power supply can be restored.

“Queenwood and surrounding areas (including Glen Lynne Avenue, Samuel Place) will remain on generators throughout the day.

Areas currently without power:
-Areas of SH22
-Rowe Road
-Holland Road
