SEVERE WEATHER WARNING

Heavy rain and gales across central New Zealand
A deep low is forecast to move southeastwards across central New
Zealand tonight, delivering heavy rain and strong winds across much of the North Island and the upper South Island.
The heaviest rain is expected about Mount Taranaki, Tongariro National Park, the eastern ranges of Bay of Plenty, also Marlborough, and WARNINGS for heavy rain are in force for these areas.
Severe gales are expected across the North Island, also Marlborough
and north Canterbury during today and Saturday, with WARNINGS and
WATCHES in place throughout these areas.
Note, the combination of strong winds and high tides have caused
coastal inundation in eastern areas from Northland to Bay of Plenty
including the Firth of Thames, but may also cause inundation in
western and southern areas,especially along Wellington’s south coast
as the winds change southwest tonight.
People should keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case other
areas are added to the WARNING.
Note, the Warnings for heavy rain in northern Gisborne, Auckland,
Coromandel Peninsula, the Tararua Range, and Nelson are now lifted.

STRONG WIND WARNING

Strong wind gusts could damage trees, powerlines and unsecured
structures.Driving may be hazardous, especially for high-sided
vehicles and motorcycles.
Area: Coromandel Peninsula, Waikato, Waitomo, Taumarunui, Bay Of
Plenty,Rotorua,Taupo, and Taranaki
Valid: 8 hours from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Friday
Forecast: North to northeast winds, severe gale gusting 120 km/h at
times,changing westerly this evening and ease.
The combination of strong winds and high tides may also cause coastal
inundation,especially in the east including the Firth of Thames.
