Confusion over proposed Karioi track

Raglanite John Lawson has pointed out an apparent mismatch between Raglan Community Board and WDC’s Community Engagement committee about a proposed Karioi Track that would run for 3.4km from Wainui Raod and be available for walking and biking. The Council committee believes that consultation has been completed, with its action point list saying, ” Karioi track (3.4km walking/biking track from Wainui Road) ENGAGEMENT COMPLETED”

John says that RCB discussion last week decided enagement wasn’t complete as the RCB minutes say, “Could the roadway that runs up Pooleys Paper Road off Wainui Road towards Karioi mountain be opened up for public recreation use. Request that they put a submission to the LTP next year.”

In WDC’s other reports under recreation reporting the proposed track is rated as a feasible project with second order priority to the in town and Wainui reserve  tracks.
Many regard the proposed Karioi track as a fairly straight forward initiative given the paper road’s legal status and the adjoining land ownership and the good  fit with the wider recreational use and access planning focus of the WDC.

John has referred the matter to Raglan Ward Councillor Lisa Thomson for investigation.
