Labour vote quadruples in Raglan

The Labour Party in 2017 on 712 has quadrupled its Taranaki King Country electorate Party vote at the Raglan Town Hall Voting Booth up from its 2014 result of 152. National also had a gain lifting its Raglan vote from 325 to 598. The Greens had a smaller lift moving from 265 in 2014 up to 392 this year.

While National won the Raglan Party vote back in 2014, in 2017 it was beaten by Labour.

In Raglan’s surrounding areas, the polling booths at Te Uku, Te Mata, Te Akau and Waitetuna show a win for National on 304 with Labour on 103.

The overall number of people voting went up from 856 in 2014 to 1918 in 2017. Most people voted early in Raglan with 70% taking that option with only 30% voting on election day.

For the Hauraki Waikato electorate Party vote at the Raglan Town Hall Voting Booth Labour was a clear winner with 160 votes with the Maori party on 26 and National on 10. The early voting pattern was the same as for General with 70% voting before polling day.

Sitting MP Nanaia Mahuta (Hauraki Waikato electorate) was a clear winner in Raglan on 187, well ahead of Stanley Papa on 68.

Sitting MP Barbara Kuriger (Taranaki King Country electorate) won in Raglan with 640, well up on her 2014 vote of 318. This may be due to her strong electorate work in Raglan during the last three years. The Raglan candidate vote was fairly evenly spread with Hilary Humphrey on 633 and Robert Moore on 605. Green candidate Robert Moore moved his vote up from 355 in 2014 to 605 in 2017, but it wasn’t enough to head off Barbara Kuriger. Labour also saw a lift in its candidate vote moving up from 152 in 2014 to 633 in 2017.

So a mixed result in Raglan with the party vote for Taranaki King Country and Hauraki Waikato going to Labour while the candidate vote for Taranaki King Country went to National and the  candidate vote for Hauraki Waikato went to Labour.
