It could save your life.

Raglan Coastguard is running its latest Raglan Bar crossing awareness day on Sunday 8 October, with support from Waikato Regional Council’s maritime services team.

The day gives boaties a chance to learn about how to cross the bar safely so they and family and friends can return home safe at the end of the day.

The event will be held at the Raglan Bowling Club on the corner of James and Wallis streets. Registration starts at 8.30am with the day formally kicking off at 9am.

The cost is $35 pre-paid or $40 cash on the day. Pre-registration is mandatory and can be done viaraglancoastguard@gmail.com or by phoning 07 825 8089.

The seminar is suitable for all boaties interested in increasing their boating skills and knowledge of crossing bars safely.

It will cover topics such as skipper responsibility, safe boating practices and local area information that are key parts of crossing the Raglan bar safely.

A trip across the bar is also included in the Raglan Coastguard rescue vessel so all attendees need to bring their lifejacket.

A council harbourmaster will be at the event to discuss navigation safety and answer questions.
