The Preview Exhibition for the upcoming Raglan Arts Weekend opened on Saturday 17th. While the early birds managed to snap up top quality works of art, there are still many items waiting for a red dot. The exhibition at the Old School Arts Centre in Stewart St gives arts lovers a taste of what to expect during the weekend open studio event on Anniversary weekend.
The exhibition feature a one-off, 300 x 300 mm piece of artwork, alongside a showcase piece from each artist. Rodger Gallagher, Chair of the Raglan Community Arts Council said, “Each year the art created by our artist community in Raglan moves to a new higher level. This exhibition confirms and continues that trend. The exhibition has been superbly curated by Jane Galloway.”
Artists taking part for the first time include jewellery designer Sophie Lewis-Smith, whose intricate work featured in the movie The Hobbit; airbrush artist Dr Airbrush; and Sara Waugh, whose preferred medium is ink on paper. They are joined by well-established Raglan artists like Simon Te Wheoro, Chris Meek, Sam Mathers, Jane Galloway, and Miranda Jane Caird.
Daily viewing will be available until Monday 30 January (excluding public holidays), between 10am and 3pm, with all art available for sale.
