Raglan residents urged to continue boiling and conserving water

This morning Waikato District Council continues to ask Raglan residents to conserve and boil their water.

Following the 7.5 earthquake on Monday morning, the town’s water supply was affected.

Council have pumped approximately half a million litres of water into the Raglan reservoirs since yesterday morning to keep up with drinking water demand. This will continue until the water treatment plant can be turned back on once water tests come back. This could be a minimum of three days.

Please continue to limit your water use to only necessary drinking. Please do not do washing, shower or flush the loo (only number twos). Boil your water for one minute before drinking.

Raglan residents located on high ground may also be experiencing a drop in water pressure.

A tanker has been located at the Raglan Fire Station from 5pm-10pm last night and again this morning since 6am for those who require fresh water. This will remain in place for the duration of the event. Please take bottles and containers to fill with water.

Council has also been kept busy with a culvert collapsing on Otonga Valley Road in Waitetuna which has taken a large section of the road with it.

The Waikato District Alliance have closed the road to all vehicle traffic and have been at the site all night before assessing the culvert at first light this morning.

The culvert has now been initially assessed. These assessments indicate that the culvert has been significantly damaged. Alliance staff are working on restoring access to the road and the properties as quickly as possible. A temporary bridge will be travelling to site and will be craned in place as soon as possible to once again allow access for the affected families.

There are around 15 families on the other side of the road who are being supported by Council and Alliance staff.

Council will continue to keep residents informed on both the water and culvert issue.
