Electric vehicle charging coming to Raglan

Raglan may soon be getting two electric vehicle charging car parks.  WEL Networks has asked Waikato District Council to support installation of a charging station for electric vehicles in Raglan CBD.

The charging station would have two carparks in a Council parking area dedicated to electric vehicles. The car park area proposed is the used for permit parking behind the Bow Street visitor sign near the Raglan town hall. The permit parking area is currently used by the Raglan, Plunket, and the Raglan Community Radio Station. This area was allocated to them when their previous parking courtyard outside the Raglan House was removed by WDC in 2006.

The high speed electric vehicle charger in Raglan would have a time limit of 60 minutes so the parking places would not be occupied by one electric vehicle all day. Electricity and maintenance costs would be covered by WEL Networks along with the $50,000 cost of each charger. Signage and other costs would be met by WDC.

The Raglan Community Board has been asked to support a change to the Public Places Bylaw order that would allow the proposal to go ahead.
